Missourians competing in First DI Champs at the Track-Boston

The 2024 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships kicked off at a new location and with a new schedule last night in Boston. The gorgeous nearly 2-year-old venue called The Track at New Balance plays home to this years meet for the first time.

The NCAA meet has bumped the New Balance Nationals Indoor high school championship meet's first three days of competition to the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center before a 4th and final day seven miles away back at The Track.

With a new venue also came a new schedule for the NCAA Meet. The normal 2-day event opened an evening earlier with the men's and women's weight throw contested Thursday night. Throwers took center stage and one Missourian shined under the spotlight.

St. Michael, Minnesota native and Southeast Missouri State University graduate student Parker Feuerborn earned a trophy in his 2nd year in Cape Girardeau and added to the throws tradition under coach Eric Crumpecker.

Feuerborn began his college career at Division III St. Thomas Uniersity in Minnesota. In his first year in the Redhawks uniform, he got his first taste of NCAA Division I Championships at the 2023 West Preliminary Championships, where he placed 9th in the hammer throw to earn a berth to nationals in Austin, Texas last June. In Texas, he threw a personal best of 68.91m/226-1 to place 13th and earn 2nd-Team All-America honors.

In Boston, Feuerborn started with a foul on toss one, but came through with a 3rd throw of 22.13m/2-7.25. That put him 9th to earn him the final spot in the finals and giving him three more throws. Feuerborn got in a groove on his final two tosses. In round five he tossed a 22.81m/74-10 and followed with a final attempt of 22.67m/74-4.5.

His best of 22.81/74-10 placed him 6th in the field of 16 to earn hardware and 1st-Team All-America accolades.
