History Made: Peterson Becomes First Ever 20/40 Missourian

While freak storms and heavy winds surprised competitors at meets on the eastern side of the state, on Thursday night in Springfield, the Glendale Girls Night Out was brimming with some lightning of its own.

Among the incredible marks and 52 elite performances was a historic feat from Hickman senior Athena Peterson. Peterson cleared new personal bests in the long jump and triple jump, and, in the process, according to our database, became the first Missourian to ever clear 20 feet (6.10m) and 40 feet (12.19m) in the respective events. She jumped 6.15m (20-2.25) and 12.39m (40-7.75) for the wins.

As it stands, these are the US No. 11 (long jump) and US No. 15 (triple jump) marks in 2025 so far.

Taking from baseball terms, we are dubbing her the first ever 20/40 jumper in State history.

Peterson would also go on to win the 100 and 300 meter hurdle races, running 14.91 and 44.29. These are the four events we assume will be on her docket heading into the state series and she appears to already be in end-of-season form in mid-April.
