It’s time for the Missouri Class 3 & 4 Track and Field Championship. Here’s a preview of what I’ll be watching on the boys side.
Class 4 Boys
In the team competion it sure looks like its going to be tough to catch Hazelwood Central.
The Hazelwwod Central Boys 4x200 & 4 X400 look poised to make a run at the state records while Liberty looks to challenge HC in the 4x100.
Can Michael Hester go sub 47 in the 400 meter dash? The record is 46.81 while Hester’s season best in 2010 is a blsitering 47.42
Michael Hester of Hazelwood Central
Hester will be challenged in the 200 by Ronald Dumas of Kirkwood, as well as the state leader Jordan Dodd of Blue Springs, and Hester's teammate Spencer Davis
Dumas should also put up a fight having up 48.22.

Walter Powell of Hazelwood East is fresh of a 37.85 state leading performance in the 300 meter hurdles. His teammate Hassan Hamilton
is also a favorite, running a 38.29 at Sectionals.
The 800 meter race looks like a great battle between Nick Seckfort of S.L.U.H. and Dalin Fink of Ft. Zumwalt North.

Kevin Colon went 4 wide to win a tough 1600 at the Kansas Relays but faces another tough challenge against Danny Thater and a deep field of runers who have run under 4:23. In the 3200 it will be again be Colon and Thater in addition to Zach Herriott.

In the field events returning champion James White has jumped 7-2 this year and has a shot at the 28 year old state record of 7-3. The Long Jump is a competive field with 4 jumpers over 23 feet in 2010.
Class 3 Boys
Once again our Virual Meet is predicting a dog fight with Staley and U-City each with 54 points. Both schools bring deep rosters to the state meet.
In the field events names to watch include Kyle Wessell of Hannibal in the Pole Vault, Brad Dinwiddie of Marshfield in the Long Jump, Reggie Miller of Hickman Mills in the Triple Jump and Shon Kyle of Imperial in the Shot Put and Discuss. The High Jump field is up for grabs with 4 jumpers holding a season best of 6-8.
Farmington and Jennings are the favorites in the Boys 4x800 while Jennings leads a competeive 4x400 field.

In the Sprints look for returning state champ Marquis White of North County Tech in the 100 & 200 Meter Dashes.

The 400 & 800 races look to be very competitve with a tight pack of runners.
As a then sophomore Daniel Everett of Westminster Christian led the 1600 meter race last year for about 1550 meters and finished with a time of 4:14.01. However at the line it was Jacob Swearingen of Potosi winning with a time of 4:13.45. Everett is back again this year but faces U City's David Lambus and Maksim Korolev of Harrisonville. Korolev was 4th a year ago in the 1600 but defeated Everett in the KU relays this year. Lambus was 14th a year ago but recently set a U-City school record of 4:17.58. Also likely to be stalking the lead pack is Daniel’s twin brother David Everett.

In the 3200 Maksim Koroloev appears ready to make a run at Jason Pyrah’s Class 3 record of 9:07 and maybe even Matt Tagenkamp’s 8:57 overall record. David Lambus, David Everett and Josh Inman round out the top four, but figure to have their hands full with Korolev.
