Classes 1-3 District meets are behind us and what a solid weekend it was. Conference meets like the GKC Gold and last chance invitationals like Hillsboro's also brought the heat on what was a weekend that was chock full of stellar performances. Who should be our penultimate Performer of the Week this week?
Each Monday this season, we will be running a poll with five candidates for Performer of the Week that was, highlighting five athletes from around the state who did something amazing in the last seven days. Vote for who you think deserves the honor!
Polls open at 7:00am on Monday and remain open until 5:00pm on Friday. The athlete who wins will move to our end-of-the-season "Performer of the Year" poll and will not be nominated again for the weekly poll for the rest of the season. Athletes who were nominated and do not win will not be eligible to be nominated for one full week.

Week 6 (4/28-5/2): Tucker Martin - Joplin
--
Here are this week's nominees:
Emmanuel Ellis - Cardinal Ritter
Ellis led the Lions at Class 3 District 2 with a personal best of 10.61 en route to his victory in the 100 meter dash. This was the fastest mark of the week. He was also a key part of their District champion 4x100 and 4x200 relays with their respective 42.39 and 1:27.06. His 21.95 personal best in the 200 earned him 3rd place there, as well.
--
Jacob Bond - Rockhurst
Bond ran the 400, 800, 1600, and a leg on the 4x800 relay at Friday's Shawnee Mission North Relays, but it was the two half mile events that land him on this week's poll. He was the top 800 runner this past week with his 1:54.32 season best and ran a leg on the top 4x800 relay team. The Hawklets ran 7:56.29 for second overall there.
--
Moses Mugenyi - Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience
Also at the Class 3 District 2 Championship was Moses Mugenyi's state-leading triple jump mark of 14.56m (47-9.25). He also cleared a personal best of 6.58m (21-7.25) in the long jump to finish second to his teammate. The Owls were District champions as a team on Saturday, a big plus for their prospects at a state title as they took out a formidable opponent in Cardinal Ritter.
--
Xavier Wandrey - Battle
Several top performances took place at the Hillsboro Invitational on friday night, and one big one was the state-leading high jump clearance from Battle's Xavier Wandrey. His second time on the poll this season, Wandrey deserves it for the 2.09m (6-10.25) mark, moving him that much closer to the exclusive 7 foot club.

Ethan Ross - Centralia
Ross is usually praised for his sprint talents, especially after earning all-state honors in the 100 and 400 as a sophomore last spring. This spring, he decided to lean into his talent in the javelin and it is paying off. Ross was the second best javelin thrower in the entire state last week, uncorking a massive personal best of 56.72m (186-1.25) for the win in Class 3 District 4. He also finished second in the 200 meter dash and first in the 400 meter dash.
