Class 1 Girls Track Events

Multi state champion Alexa Taff of St. Joseph Christian is likely to do battle with Maria Rains of Lutheran KC in the 100-200-400 meter dashes.  These two already went head to head in the Section 4 race with Rains taking the 100 &400 and Taff the 200.  Taff is the defending state champion in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

In the 800 meter run Kelsey Cahalan of Knox County owns the states best Class 1 800 meter time, a 2:25 at the Class 1 District 2 meet.  2011 3rd place finisher Randi Lee Plunkett of Marion County and Shannon Luke of Stanberry will likely be in mix for a gold as well.

In the 1600 & 3200 Mackenzie Weis is no stranger to the state meet. Last year she won the 3200 and took 2nd in the 1600 and will face a strong challenge from Cahalan in the 1600 in her quest to win both distance events.

Section 3 100 meter champion Megan Speichinger owns the states best 100 meter hurdle time while Section 2 champ, Kacey Ayers of Liberal High School is the only Missouri Class 1 girl below 48 seconds this year.  Kacey finished 3rd at the state meet in this event in 2011

The 4x100 pits the state leading time of the Section 2 champions from Liberal against the Section 3 champions from New Franklin.

4 x200 Liberal looks on track to defend their title as state champions in this event.

4X 400 The section 2 champion, Lockwood faces a challenge from Knox County who won section 1

4x800 Valle Catholic cruised to a 9 second victory in the section 1 meet but could will likely be challenged by Section 2 champions from Midway who will likely anchor multi state champion Mackenzie Weis.

Class 1 Boys Track Events

The defending state champ in the 100 & 200 meter dash,  Eli Mullock of Worth County was defeated in the Section 4 race by Eric Duncan of Rock Port in the 100 and Kylynn Sisk of South Holt in the 200.

Dominick Fleeks of Stewartsville may pose a threat in the 200 but looks to be the one to beat in the 400 meter dash, an event he finished second in at the 2011 state meet.

In previous years the Class 1 mid distance events have been dominated by Blake Goodin of Princeton.  Blake has won the 800-1600-3200 combo in 2010 & 2011. In 2009 Blake won the 1600 & 3200 and finished second in the 800 meters. Blake has a great chance at ending his high school career with 11 gold medals.

In the hurdles, returning champ, Bubba Galvan, is coming off of a season best time of 15.74 where he was the sectional 2 champion.  The top time come from Collin Werths, who ran 15.44h to win sectional 3.  Also under 15.5 is Seth Shurvington of Bevier High School.

Galvan also won this last year and a repeat looks possible.  The Wheaton senior posts the best time in class 1 this year with his 40.06.  Collin Werths tails him as well and Larry Rains of Lone Jack not far behind.

4x100m:  Greenfield comes in with a lead in the rankings but sectional champs, Wellington-Napolean and Chaffee both are within striking distance.

4x200m:  Greenfield also comes in with the top time in this event. They are the only team so far to dip under 1:34.  Chaffee looks for a top finish in this event as well.

4x400m:  Valle Catholic posts the best time from their conference meet.  Both Chamois and Chaffee gave them a run at sectionals and look to take down the favorites this weekend. Stanberry is coming off of a sectional victory and have run in the 3:34's; the only other team besides Valle Catholic to do so.

4x800m: Valle Catholic has the best time but is closely trailed by Drexel.  The three second lead in the rankings shows it will be a close race this weekend.

Class 1 Girls Field Events

Emma Schiermeir of Veinna is the returning state champ in the Long Jump but will face a likely challenge by last years 5th place finisher, Jordan Breckenridge of King City.  Mallory Eitel who finished 2nd last year also figures to be in the mix but Chase Frieidel a freshman from Father Tolton defeated Eitel at sectionals so this event is appears to be wide open.
