Women’s Cross Country No. 4 in Regional Rankings

The women earn the season’s first ranking after Bradley

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Tiger women have jumped into the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Midwest Regional rankings in a big way this week after their exciting performances at Friday’s Bradley Pink Classic.  Less than a month from the Regional Championships in Ames, IA, the ladies are now ranked No. 4 in the Region.

The Mizzou squad placed first on Friday in Peoria, IL, overcoming fellow-Midwest Regional competitors Bradley, Wichita State, and Saint Louis.  Freshman Kaitlyn Fischer once again took the lead for the Tigers, finishing third overall, followed by junior Liz Reida in sixth, freshman Nicole Mello in 16th, junior Courtney Brown in 21st, and freshman Kaelyn Balch in 26th.  All12 Tigers placed in the top 60 of the field, with the top 10 placing within the top 50.

This is the highest the women have been ranked in the region over the past four years, with the next highest place being in 2011 when they ended the season at No. 5.

The men remain in the No. 7 spot in the region after their 31st-place finish at Saturday’s Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, WI.
