The 2013 Track and Field Season has just begun but there are already a few freshmen who have caught our eye. This week we introduce you to 10 athletes we think you should know.
#1 Taylor Werner, Ste. Genevieve
Unless you tuned out during XC season you are well aware of this freshman phenom. After running 5 flat as an 8th grader last spring, Taylor went on to win the state championship in XC for Class 3 last fall. This past weekend she split a 2:16 in the 4x8 to anchor Ste Gen to victory and then went on to win the 1600/800 double in 4:57 and 2:19. She closed the day spliting 61.8 in the 4X400. She's already something special to watch.
#2 Sophia Rivera, Brentwood
This freshman has already thrown 41-4 in the Shot and a 116-7 in the Discus. Although just a freshman she already has an impressive resume this past indoor season and in AAU & USATF national meets last summer.
#3 Dylan Quisenberry, Lafayette Wildwood
This guy was the #1 Freshman in Class 4 last XC season and has already run a sub 16 5k. While he hasn't had a track race yet he's worth keeping an eye out for.
#4 Austin King, Potosi
Hailing from a school with a rich history of producing distance runners, Austin ran a 4:46 1600 and 10:07 3200 in Festus this past weekend.
#5 Marilise Stamps, Rock Bridge
