Record Watch: Class 2 Record - 25.05 set in 1988. Top Seed: 24.72 - Aiesha Irvin-Muhammad
After coming second in both the 100m and 200m, Aiesha Irvin-Muhammad could spoil two champions from last year from returning to the top of the podium. Maplewood’s Essence Brewer was victorious last year but Muhammad had her by a long shot at sectionals – beating the previous champ by over a second in the 200m. It isn’t because Brewer hasn’t had the success she did last year. She ran faster than she did during the prelims of state. Muhammad is just amazing in the 200m – the top girl in all of Missouri. If she runs what she ran at sectionals not only would she break the record – but she would break it by a quarter second…and this is a 25 year old class record! Brewer pulled some magic in last year’s final and if Muhammad isn’t on the top of gam it’s possible to see her win another title. The 100m defending champ, Carly Spalding will surely be in the mix. Her 25.37 is 10th in the state for all classes. Unfortunately the second ranked Morgan Prather is nursing a mid-season injury and won’t be in the field.
