Missouri Athletes Compete at New Balance Outdoor Nationals

New Balance Outdoor Nationals is this weekend, and a small contingent of Missouri Athletes will be making their way to Greensboro, North Carolina. Every athlete headed to NC has won a state title, whether it is an individual title or a team title.

Emerging Elite Mile – Friday 11:35 AM

Elizabeth Nolke, Lee’s Summit West, JR

Nolke, a 5:07 1600 runner, will run in the emerging elite section of the mile to kick off the action for Missouri Athletes at Greensboro.  Nolke was tenth in the Class 4 1600m.

Emerging Elite Javelin - Friday 6:00 PM

Sophia Rivera, Brentwood, FR

Only a freshman, Rivera won both the shot put and discus at the Class 2 State Meet. She added another event this summer, the javelin.  She threw 112-0 to finish 11th at Great Southwest and looks to further her mark in this event on Friday.

Championship 5K – Friday 8:10

Courtney Coppinger, St. Teresa’s Academy SR; Kennadee Williams, Lee’s Summit West, JR

The two have been nearly inseparable lately.  Coppinger, a soon to be Kansas Jayhawk, collected a pair of third place finishes at the State Meet while Williams finished fourth in both of those races.  They move up, running twelve and a half laps around the track against some of the best distance runners in the nation.

Championship Shot Put – Saturday 12:00 PM

Sophia Rivera, Brentwood, FR

Rivera won this event at the Class 2 State Meet a couple weeks back.  She competed at Great Southwest last weekend. With a mark thirty feet under her best, she finished 11th.

Championship Two Mile – Saturday 5:35/6:55 PM (Depending on Heats)

Chris Mooneyham, Glendale, SR

Mooneyham turned some heads winning the State Title in the 3200m this year with a quick 9:06 clocking.  He added a best in the mile of 4:16 at Festival of Miles since then.

 

Championship Shot Put – Sunday 1:00 PM

Sophia Rivera, Brentwood, FR

Rivera competes Saturday in the Shot Put, an event she excelled in throughout the year which included a state title. Her mark of 42-4 puts her as the seventh best freshman in the nation.

Championship One Mile – Sunday 2:25/4:55 PM (Depending on Heats)

Spencer Haik, Glendale, JR

Haik has proved over the past two years that he is the best miler in the state.  With two titles in Class 4 and a victory over Amos Bartelsmeyer at the Kansas Relays, no one has been able to touch his kick.  Will his powerful kick in the last 100m prevail over some of the best milers in the nation?
