Missouri XC Sessions: Mia Jerman

MoMileSplit : How much fun are you having being part of this Ste Genevieve team this season?

Mia: The amount of fun I am having being on the Ste. Gen team this season is indescribable.  I feel truly blessed to be apart of this team.

MoMileSplit  What’s something about your team that might surprise people?

Mia: We are all best friends, and how well we get along.  We hang out all the time and are together almost 12 hours a day.  Another thing that might surprise people is that we call ourselves the Camel Pack!

MoMileSplit: You are pretty consistently shaving about 90 seconds off of each meet you have run in 2013 compared to your 2012 time that’s a huge jump  Tell us about  what it took to make that kind of improvement?

Mia: This season I have gotten much more focused and  more dedicated than i was in the 2012 season.

MoMileSplit: Post season plans?

Mia: I plan to race at Nike and Footlocker Regionals, and continue training for track.

MoMileSplit: When & how did you get started in cross country?

Mia: I got started in Cross Country the summer before my freshmen year.  During Middle School I did track and my Coaches, Coach Boyd and Coach Jett, told me I needed to come out for cross country in High School.  One day I just decided to that I would give it a try.

MoMileSplit : Who has influenced you the most so far in your life and what they mean to you and your success?

Mia: My family and my team have influenced me the most so far in life, and in cross country.  Having the family and team support is really important to me with everything I do.  I feel very blessed to have this kind of support.

MoMileSplit Your favorite past performance in a cross country race and why?

Mia: My favorite past performance in a cross country race was Foot Locker Regionals last year.  This was my favorite past performance because it was a really scenic  course.  Foot Locker was also the first time I had broken 20.

MoMileSplit: What is your greatest non-running experience in cross country so far and why?

Mia: The greatest non-running experience in cross country so far is how amazing and nice all of the runners are.  I feel like we all respect each other because we know how much work it takes to be in this sport.  Even though everyone might have a different jersey on, on race day at the finish line everyone is hugging and shaking hands, or doing a cool down together; you don’t get that in other sports.

The Fun Run

MoMileSplit: What music do you rock while working out?

Mia: Usually I don’t listen to music, but if I do its something that pumps me up.

MoMileSplit:Do you like to run in the mud or the grass?

Mia: I haven’t really gotten the opportunity to run in the mud, but I think it would be a fun challenge!

MoMileSplit: Do you hang out on Facebook or Twitter?

Mia: Twitter all the way!

MoMileSplit: Do you like going out or chilling at home?

Mia: I prefer chilling at home with my family, unless I am going out with the team.

MoMileSplit: What gear is your favorite while running?

Mia:  I love running in spandex, and a lightweight short sleeve shirt..
