TEAM RANKINGS
TOP 10 GIRLS TEAMS
#1) JEFFERSON CITY – Huge win at Rim Rock further cements their position at number one. The Lady Jays put their top five within 11 seconds of one another. Should they duplicate that feat at State it seems unlikely that they could get beat. Also won the Helias Invite in week 6.
#2) WEST PLAINS - The Zizzers are approaching Jefferson City with a 49 second spread at Cape Notre Dame and some impressive times and then a nice win at conference over rival Kickapoo. Their potential to get stronger lies in the capable hands of two-time defending State Champ Brittani Johnson who has now moved up to number one on her squad and has improved each week since returning from injury.
#3) LEE'S SUMMIT WEST – Finished second at the Cowboy Jamboree in Oklahoma ahead of perennial power Edmond North (Ok) and beat #4 Kickapoo by 21 points.
#4) STE GENEVIEVE – Ste. Gen jumps back up in the rankings with a big win at the Potosi Invite over Festus and previous # 3 Cape Central.
#5) KICKAPOO – They vault back up the charts with a second place finish at conference to West Plains. They had finished ahead of Festus and Cape Central at Forest Park in week two but behing Ste Genevieve so it seems to make sense to have them at number four.
#6) FESTUS – A team steadily on the rise, they were second at Potosi and have frontrunner Alyssa Allison for a consistently low stick.
#7) CAPE CENTRAL – Cape looked great at the Parkway West Invite, dominating a field that included Rockwood Summit and Lafayette. They followed it up with another impressive performance at Potosi but they were narrowly out-gunned by Ste Gen and Festus.
#8) OAK PARK – Won the Big 7 Conference Meet over tough LSN and Liberty squads.
#9) LEE'S SUMMIT NORTH – A very strong second at Big 7's places them in ninth here.
#9) NOTRE DAME DE SION – Notched a win at the Clinton Invitational with two freshmen going 1-2.
#10 TIE) LAFAYETTE – Two teams could not be more evenly matched than the Lady Lancers and the Flyers. At the Fred Lyons Metro Meet they went 1-2 and were separated by just one point.
#10 TIE) LINDBERGH – Barely edged out at Metro so for the second set of rankings in a row we will call it a tie!
HONORABLE MENTION (alphabetical order): Eureka, Liberty, Rockwood Summit
.............................................................TOP 10 BOYS TEAMS
#1) SLUH – The Junior Bills are now ranked #1 in the Heartland Region. They earned their ranking with a 64 point win at Rim Rock and followed it up with an MCC Conference Championship. Their spread over the last three races has never been more than 27 seconds.
#2) LEE'S SUMMIT WEST – This squad has moved into the third in the Heartland Region rankings with a second place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree and they nab the second spot here.
#2) WEST PLAINS – Two weeks, two wins for the Zizzers. First they rolled to a 12 point win over Cape Notre Dame at the Notre Dame Invite and then it was a one point squeaker over #3 Kickapoo at the Ozark Conference Meet.
#3) KICKAPOO - This bunch had a great two weeks with a fourth place showing at the Cowboy Jamboree and a second place at Ozark Conference.
#4) PARKWAY WEST - The Longhorns looked mighty good at their home meet with another impressive individual victory for #1 man Eric Fernandez.
#5) POTOSI – Got a win at home in week six with another 1-2 finish from Nick Niggeman and Jacob Swearingen, though this time the positions were reversed.
#6) OAK PARK – A dominating win at the Big 7 Conference Meet for this consistently good squad. They were also third at Rim Rock the week before.
#7) COLUMBIA HICKMAN – No results found.
#8) FRANCIS HOWELL NORTH – Finished second to Parkway West at the Parkway West Invite.
#9) LEE'S SUMMIT NORTH – Finished only ten points back of Oak Park at Rim Rock. They were fourth at Big 7's but we think the Rim Rock performance is more indicative of what they have.
#10) CAPE NOTRE DAME – Back into the top 10 for these guys after a second place finish, only 12 points back, of West Plains at the Notre Dame Invite.
