Salute to Seniors: C. Werth, R. Gibson, M. Lee

Name: Maddie Lee

School: Parkway Central

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: Getting 4th place at the first cross country meet of the year, the Fleet Feet Invitational, or setting the track 5k school record.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: Going from a 9:45 mile and 23:15 5k freshman year PR down to a 19:55 5k and a 5:37 mile.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: I would have trained harder sooner, and I would learn earlier to work with my teammates instead of competing against them.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: My mentality: my insecurities about how I looked or my times, competitive nature, things like that.

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: My training partner, Brooke Hilton, my amazing cross country team, and the amazing coaching staff (Banta, Silvermintz, Merriman, Burnett, to name a few)

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: Look up to the older girls and learn from them. Don't compete with one another during training, learn from each other and push each other.

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: Without my coach, I wouldn't be the runner or leader that I am today. He helped me grow so much as a person and I would not be who I am without him.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I'm going to run cross country and track for Truman State University where I will major in linguistics.

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: My teammates, coaches, my dad, and my little sister who dealt with me not only being her older sibling, but being on the same team with me for a whole year.
