Salute to Seniors: C. Gibbens, D. Schulte, M. Young

Name: Macyn Young

School: Fox High School

  • What was your most memorable race/moment?
My most memorable moment was during the 4x100 at districts. My team was back 3 places from qualifying for sectionals, but the last leg runner made up time and brought us into 3rd place and onto sectionals!
  • What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
The funniest thing that happened during my running career was always seeing my face during a race in pictures that were taken. A couple pictures were even put in the newspaper!
  • Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
My biggest competition over my four years was myself. I was always trying to PR and beat my previous times in both the open 100 and 200.
  • What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was making it to state my senior year in the open 200!
  • If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I wouldn't change anything about my running career in high school. It was the most amazing experience and I wouldn't change anything about it.
  • What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacles I had to overcome were shin splints. I first got shin splints my sophomore year and have been battling them all the way through my senior year.
  • What will you miss the most?
I will miss my team the most. Practice was always fun, even on the hardest days because I was out there with my team. They would always be cheering me on and pushing me to be the best.
  • What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Some advice I would give to young athletes is to try as many things as you can and to never give up on a sport you love!
  • What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
My coach had a positive impact on my team. She was always pushing us hard at practice and watched us succeed in meets. She would always be at the finish line waiting to congratulate us or to give us a hug.
  • What are your college plans?
In college I will be a nursing student, and I will be on the women's golf team.
  • Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
I would like to say thank you to my parents for coming to all of my track meets, cheering me on, and being there for me.
