In his final high school meet, Tanner Talley left his mark all over the record books.
The New Covenant Academy distance star won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Track and Field Championships last weekend at Jefferson City High School.
Talley won the 3,200-meter run on Friday in 9 minutes, 15.11 seconds and broke the class record set back in 2000. Grandview Hillsboro's Alan Heincker won that title in 9:26.55 and held the mark for more than two decades.
In a compressed schedule on Saturday due to a rolling schedule after a 3 1/2 -hour weather delay, Talley won the 800- and 1,600-meter runs.
He set the new class record in the 1,600 in 4:12.27, breaking the mark set by College Heights Christian's Caleb Hoover in 2009 of 4:15.07.
Talley, who will run at Kansas next year, tied the state record in the 800 by running 1:54.78 to capture his third title of the weekend. Deko Ricketts of Barstow set the mark in 2013 and will now share it.
