Meet Recap: MSHSAA Class 3 Boys Track and Field Championship

Repeat after me

Some relay teams found ways to get back on the top spot on the podium despite some new faces.

St. Mary's High School won the 4x100-meter for the second year in a row (42.95) but only one runner was back from that team: Jamal Roberts. Other members were Daimond Casseus, Farand Washington and Chase Hendricks. That same quartet helped the Dragons win the 4x200 on Saturday with a time of 1:29.76 after being seeded third after prelims.

East Newton won the 4x800-meter relay for the third year in a row and could've been four had it not been for the COVID year. The Patriots team of Mason Silva, Chase Sorrell, Kelton Sorrell and Gabe Bergen won the Class 3 title in 8:06.52.

Kelton Sorrell and East Newton kept their 4x800 title streak going.

East Newton won the race in 2021 and 2019 with Chase Sorrell, Kelton Sorrell and Bergen on the team last year, while Kelton Sorrell and Bergen were on the 2019 team.

The Patriots took third in the team standings, while St. Mary's took fourth.

Hogan Prep's Dyimond Walker won the 400 (48.44) and was also part of the 4x400-meter relay championships. That was the first title in school history for the Rams. Walker ran the last leg on the 4x400 with John Brown, Steven Clark and Shawn Mays Jr.
