Meet Recap: Class 4 Girls Track and Field Championships

Colts take command

Parkway Central racked up points in the sprints, hurdles and relays.

Senior Kayelyn Tate took the 200-meter dash crown in 24.48, a spot ahead of teammate Nnenna Okpara at 24.60-seconds.

Tate (right) and Okpara (center) run to a 1-2 finish in the 200.

The two each added a runner-up finish at the meet. Tate took second in the 100 behind Akins, while Okpara was second in the 400 behind Akins.

Sophomore Skyye Lee swept the hurdle titles, winning the 100-meter version in a Class 4 meet record 13.84-seconds. The previous mark was set by Makeatha Cooper of Grandview, who ran 13.85 in 2003. Lee won the 300's in 43.76 seconds. Both of her victories came with Carl Junction's Ally Montez taking second.

After only running 100-hurdles twice and a 3rd-place state finish in the 300-hurdles last year, Skyye Lee focused on the hurdles this year and it paid off, with 100 and 300-meter state titles.

The Colts also won the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays.

The 4x200 squad featured Lee, Tate, Okpara and Mychael Green, running 1:39.49, more than three seconds ahead of Jefferson City Helias Catholic, the 4th-fastest in the Missouri MileSplit database. Okapara, Tate and Lee were on the team last year that won the state title as well.

The same group of Tate, Lee, Okpara and Green ran the 4x400, winning in 3:58.42, to conclude the meet on Saturday, beating runner-up Jefferson City and the rest of the field by more than 2-seconds.
