MO State XC Preview Series: Class 5 Boys and Girls

Girls
Kyle's Crystal Ball

Kyle's Crystal Ball is predictions based on season bests, season averages, head-to-head performances, performance at the Gans Creek Classic, past performances at the State Meet and the intangibles: "who's impressed me the most" and "who's peaking at the right time." These predictions are solely mine and are reflective of no one else in the Missouri MileSplit network's feelings on the race.

--

This year, the crown goes to yet another one of Missouri's finest: Josie Baker. She's ran tough on several different types of course, always seeming to hold her own against the best of the best. She seems to be without fear at the moment so I'm calling her shot right here. Every girl in the top 10 here as a shot, though, as it could be anyone's race. Or, I could be totally wrong, and I'll stand there eating my words as Carolyn Ford or Grace Tyson gaps the field in the first 1000 meters just like old times. The final chapter is written first thing Friday morning!

Teams

5. Blue Springs

4. Raymore-Peculiar

3. Cor Jesu Academy

2. Blue Springs South

1. Lafayette Wildwood

I've already said it, but it bears repeating. Lafayette with an even 90% Grace Tyson should win it all on Friday. The Barnard sisters have been electric and District 1 showed that you should be able to count on their 4 and 5 to do their jobs. It will be a tight race between all five of these teams and Rock Bridge as I expect a lot of moving and shaking throughout the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Ks. Ultimately, I think it's Lafayette by 5-10 points, Blue Springs South just ahead of Cor Jesu, and a dogfight of a battle between Ray-Pec, Blue Springs, Rock Bridge, and Liberty for 4th place.
