Rock Bridge boys take 1st place at CMAC championships

Columbia Rock Bridge swept the team titles at the Central Missouri Activities Conference meet held Saturday, April 22 at Jefferson City Helias.

The Bruins had 170 points to win the boys title, followed by Helias with 151 1/2 points, and defending champion Capital City was third with 110 points. The girls won the team title as well.

Rock Bridge won the 4x800-meter relay in 8:09.84 with a team of Ty Welty, Noah Lee, Adam Baehr and Ian Kemey. 

Distance standout Andrew Hauser won the 1,600-meter, while Luke Sievers won the 3,200-meter run, just ahead of Welty.

Casey Hood won the 100- and 200-meter dash in 11.00 and 21.88, respectively.

Capital City won four titles between two athletes: Sam Albert and Keion Grieve.

The latter won the 400- and 800-meter dashes in 51.10 and 1:57.40 - respectively. Albert won the shot put (17.84 meters) and the discus (46.09 meters).


The 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays picked up wins for the Crusaders. Harrison Knernschield and Matthew Malmstrom were on both of those teams. The 4x200 also featured Jacob Lanigan and Alex Marberry. Korbin Fisher and Ethan Wilson were on the 4x400.

Tyler Groose won the high jump for Helias at 1.78 meters.

Vernell Holt won the long jump and triple jump for Battle, while Myron Love won the pole vault for the Spartans.

Jefferson City and Sedalia Smith-Cotton each had two champions - though the latter was the same athlete. 

Derek Grubb swept the hurdles for Smith-Cotton, winning the 110-meters in 15.12 seconds and the 300-meters in 39.34.

Jefferson City's Zane Wings won the javelin and the 4x100-meter relay team of Joshua WilsonRodney Wilson, Demari Wright and Jacob Wilson won in 43.06.
