For a while, Bowling Green brought home a state track and field trophy every 30 years.
It's been nearly 60 years though since the Bobcats hoisted a trophy and on Saturday, the northeast Missouri picked up the MSHSAA Class 3 state championship.
The Bobcats had 74 1/2 points and had more points than the second- and third-place teams and combined -- 67.
Bowling Green was third in Class C in 1934 and was the runner-up in Class B in 1964 and now will add its first state title in the sport in 2023 -- 59 years after the last trophy.
This is only the third boys' championship for the school, joining the Class 2 cross country title in 2009 and the Class M champion in basketball in 1962.
Bowling Green had points in 10 of the 19 events and had 14 1/2 points in the high jump, 11 in the javelin, 10 in the triple jump and 10 in the discus.
Marcus Starks won the high jump title and Jace Eskew tied for fourth. In javelin, Dylan Dalton won the title and Gunner Bryant placed eighth. Junior Bleyne Bryant was first in the triple jump and Devin Rue was first in the discus.
Bowling Green set a number of new school records at state: Bleyne Bryant in the long jump; the boys 4x100-meter relay; Ben Chance in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run and Rue in the discus.
