This Year
Potosi’s Sarah Jacobsen led all qualifiers from Sectionals with her 2:18, a mark that put her nearly three seconds clear of the second fastest qualifier. Her biggest challenges will likely come from Arcadia Valley sophomore Saga Barzowski, Festus senior Nichole Beffa and Notre Dame DeSion junior Mary Frances Donnelly.

Abbey Jeffries, Hannibal, SO, 8th

This Year
The fastest times from the weekend all came from Sectional 1 where Potosi’s super sophomore Sarah Jacobsen stopped the clock at 5:06, two seconds ahead of Arcadia Valley’s Saga Barzowski and six seconds up on Festus junior Sadie Darnell. Watch out though for reigning Class 3 cross country champ Emma Burditt from Hannibal who won comfortably in Sectional Two.

Grace Bridwell, MICDS, SR, 7th

This Year
The 3200 is on the first day for the girls this year so runners who are doubling or even tripling should still be relatively fresh for this event. After seeing her crush the field last November at the State Cross Country Championships Hannibal senior Emma Burditt certainly has to be looked at as a possible favorite here. She is likely to be challenged by Arcadia Valley sophomore Saga Barzowski who will be coming back from the 800 prelims earlier in the day as well as Festus’ Sadie Darnell and MICDS senior Grace Bridwell. Newcomers to look out for include Clinton freshman Nicole Lee and Liberty North freshman Sammy Laurenzo. Lee and Laurenzo were both Sectional champions.

(Siara Stahl, Smithville)

The defending champions from Smithville look poised to defend their title from 2010 after a big win at Sectionals and with last year’s 800 meter All-Stater Siara Stahl on the anchor. It won’t be easy though as Festus, on the strength of the Beffa sisters and veteran Sadie Darnell, ran 9:37 to win Sectional One. Other teams likely to be in the mix include Farmington, Hannibal, North County and Ste. Genevieve.
