Big River Qualifying Meet #2
Meet Preview
The second Big River Qualifying meet is set for tomorrow, Saturday the 19th. The turnout looks to be increasing after 135 athletes competed in the first meet. With the entries coming out, we see a fair number of athletes poised for solid performances. The most interesting entry is Daniel Anderson, Ozark, fifth in last years 400m, entered in the 800m. With a seed time of 1:58.00, he comes in seeded first followed by John Burroughs' Kirk Smith. Anderson is also entered to run the 200m. Austin Del Rosso, this year's 9th place finisher in the Class 4 State XC Meet, is the top seed in the mile.
Last year's runner up in the Class 4 100H, Mallory Short, is schedule to run the 60m Hurdles but she comes in seeded second behind Claudette Day of Belleville West, Il. Day competed in four events at the IL State meet last year, including a seventh place finish in the 100m hurdles. Clinton's Nicole Lee will be running the 1600m. She was sixth in the state XC meet, but has found great success on the track, collecting a state title in the 3200m last spring. The boys pole vault should have some of the best performances in the meet. Daniel Spickes of Arkansas has the top seed as he cleared 15-0 last spring. The AR State champ will be facing Alex Miles (Rogers, AR) and Zach Reed (Festus, MO). Miles cleared 14-6 at the Arkansas HS Invitational to place, fifth and Reed has cleared that height two times this indoor season. Emily Birgham, Mill Valley, KS, won the pole vault in the first Qualifying Meet and is entered to compete at the second. Brigham is currently tied for fourth in the nation in this event.
