Q&A With Coach Jett.

How has training been going for your team? What is your current focus for training?

Summer training went very well for most members on the team. Many of our runners attended the Joe Bill Dixon wilderness running camp as well as our own camp. The transition from the summer running program to the in season workouts has been smooth. We are currently building more base and working on strength.

Who have you been most impressed or surprised with their improvement and/or fitness from their summer training?

All of our veteran runners did the work this summer so it's difficult to single one out. They are all starting the season with a pretty good level of conditioning.

Who are your team captains or leaders and what stands out about them as examples for the rest of their teammates?

Our program doesn't have captains but we have 5 seniors that assume the leadership roles. Taylor Werner, Mia Jerman, Mallory Koller, Amy Huck, and Nicole Upchurch have all seen success as runners and they are great examples for the youngsters to follow.

What will be the biggest obstacle or challenge facing your team this season?

Cross Country doesn't attract large numbers so we don't have a great deal of depth. Therefore, staying healthy is our top priority.

What will be the biggest reason why your team is successful this season?

For us to be successful this season, we will have to continue to do the work and stay healthy.

What are some staple workouts your team does during the season?

Our bread and butter workouts are 400's and mile repeats.

What are your top 3 goals for this year's squad?

As far as goals for the season, we want to stay healthy, have fun, and make memories.

Any impact freshmen or transfers to join the team this season?

Freshman Sarah Moore should help out. She had a pretty successful middle school career and a good summer of training.

Kern's Notes

Ste. Genevieve lost the 2014 State Team Title to Festus on a tie breaker even though Taylor Werner had won her third consecutive Individual Title. Mia Jerman had finished second. Amy Huck and Mallory Koller had finished 22nd and 28th respectively. 2015 Pre-Season has the Lady Dragons winning in 2015 http://mo.milesplit.com/articles/160163-top-25-ret...and I agree. The four aforementioned runners will not let another State Title slip away. Taylor Werner will win her fourth consecutive Title in 2015.
