Preview
Jordan McClendon did something few do – win the shot put as a freshman. She put the shot 40-4.75 a year ago to take the Class 3 title. This year she hasn’t quite gotten to her mark from state, throwing 39-10. This year’s field could result in one of the better marks in Class 3 in a couple of years with leader Allison Hinson, the Class leader, threw 43-4 earlier in the season, a mark that would have won state for the past five years. Sectionals wasn’t her best performance, leaving her without a return trip to Jefferson City. Winner of that sectional, Sarah Weidner come in with the top mark from the entrants. Just missing making finals in 2012, Weidner’s 43-1 puts her almost a foot better than the next competitor, Myriah Bernanrd. Bernard was runner-up in this event a year ago, only behind McClendon.
