What was you most memorable meet or race?
2012 Cross Country Sectional. It had been a team goal ever since I was a freshman to qualify for state as a team. Last year we had a team full of seniors and we put together our best race of the year at sectionals to take second and comfortably qualify for state.
Who was your biggest competition?
James Barnett and Kain Ellis. I raced a lot against James all four years of high school and we both had pretty similar times and abilities. He always seemed to be the guy I had to beat in big cross country and track meets. Kain and I have competed against each other ever since middle school, always trying to be the best runner in St. Joseph. Next year we will be teammates for the first time at K-State.
Out of all your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
I am most proud of earning my first state medals in the final cross country and track races of my high school career.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss hanging out and running with my teammates. We have spent a lot of time together over the past four years and we have accomplished a lot together. I have built pretty strong friendships with the guys on the team and it is going to be different not having them around next fall.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Work hard. It sucks and it's not fun, but success is fun and without hard work there is no success.
What are your college plans?
Next year I am going to run at Kansas State. EMAW
Who would you like to thank?
I would like to thank my coaches: Bob, O'Brien and my dad. They put in a lot of time and effort to help me grow as a runner and also as a person. I would also like to thank my teammates, especially Brett, Zac, Michael and Jordan. We accomplished a lot together and all of our team goals couldn't have been accomplished without them. I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to been a part of a good team. I would like to thank my parents, grandparents, and the rest of my family for all of the support they have given me. God has blessed me with amazing people that have helped mold me into a better runner and person and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had running for Central High School.
