Led by junior Ann Campbell's first-place finish, St. Teresa's won a hard-fought victory Saturday in the girls Class 4 District 7 meet on a wonderful Saturday morning at the Lake Jacomo cross country course.
The four qualifiers for what is shaping up to be a super-tough Sectional 4 meet next Saturday at the Raymore-Peculiar course are:
St. Teresa's 57, LS West 60, LS North 63, Ray-Pec 78.
Prior to the meet, St. Teresa's was not in Big River Running's Top 10 girls rankings in Missouri, but the Stars did beat No. 4 LS West and No. 9 LS North on Saturday at Lake Jacomo.
Campbell - ranked 8th in the state by Big River - battled with LS North senior Elizabeth Carpino (ranked 14th) through the first mile in 5:50. The two were still side-by-side when they hit the two-mile mark at 12:06. But Campbell pulled away in the third mile and powered home to victory.
