1. Mikayla Reed - Washington - SR: What we have here is a 1A-1B situation. After an arm injury slowed her start to the 2016 season, Reed turned up the heat and eventually went on an impressive tear, resulting in an 18:02 at Oak Hills for her first state title. She then followed up by handing off well in 1st at the 2017 Class 4 3200m Relay, running away from the field in the 1600 (5:02) and 3200 (11:04, 20sec behind her 10:44 lifetime best), and came across in a close 3rd in the 800 (2:18). MO#2 Findley handled her at Forest Park, but Reed had the upper hand on the slightly bigger stage, before finishing just behind Findley at Nike XC Regional. She is an absolute workhorse and is one of the two big names on everyone's lips heading into her senior season and sets up well to duke out Findley for the crown in early November. This budding friendly rivalry between two of the nicest people in the state should be fun to watch.
