Pre-Season Rankings: Class 5 800m

1. Jana Shawver - Lee's Summit West, SR

PR - 2:11.29

There is no reason that you should be surprised by this pick. Buckle in because we are about to take you on a journey through one prolific 3 years of half-miling. Shawver's very first outdoor 800 as a freshman was 2:25.02 and since then she has only been slower than 2:20 4 times. That means she has been under 2:20 24 times in the open 800 - that is not to mention her splits in the relays (her 2:12 to seal the deal in last season's 4x800 was just another in a long list of crazy fast splits). Speaking of splits in relays, the 2-time defending Class 5 champion split 2:09.9 at last year's Great Southwest Classic in one of the medleys. She has also run 2:13 indoor and is basically a sub-2:15 machine. Shawver has range, though, as she has run 57.86 for 400 and also ran on at least one all-state 4x200 relay team. The KU commit returns with another chance at helping her Titans get back to the top and it will be interesting to see which four races she finds herself in this May.
