This weekend, several of Missouri's best Track and Field athletes will descend upon the world's most famous indoor track, The Armory in New York City, for the New Balance Indoor Nationals. This meet is always a burner, and last year was no different. There were 11 National Records, 13 Class Records, 26 Meet Records, and 13 Armory Records set during the course of the 3 day meet in 2017. With that being said lets take a look at the Missourian's competing!
We'll start with Victor Mugeche of Blue Springs who is competing in the Boy's 2 Mile. The defending Class 4 State XC Champion was the second only to state record holder Austin Hindman last year at the Class 5 State meet. He hasn't ran a 2 mile this year, but he has ran the 9th fastest time in the country in the 3200m with a PR of 9:09.92 which converts to a 9:13 2 mile according to our converter, which would sit him in 13th Nationally. He should be able to run with the leaders and compete for a high finish, and I can't wait to see him potentially run in the low 9's Sunday at 8:40am CT!
Competing in the Pole Vault will be Lee's Summit's KC Lightfoot. The defending Class 5 State Champion comes into Nationals with the 4th highest Vault in the country with a 17-7. Armand Duplantis (19-1.5) will not be in attendance, so KC will be one of three boys hovering around 18 feet competing for the National Championship. The Pole Vault starts at 11:00am CT Saturday, and I'm intrigued to see if he'll clear 18-0.
