Salute to Seniors: Francis Howell Edition

School: Francis Howell High School

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: My most memorable race was the 2018 Sectional 4x800 where we qualified for State.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
A: Funniest thing that happen to me during a race is I forgot to tie up my spikes before the 800m in the 200-200-400-800m race. I started the race thinking they were tied but when I reached the 400m both of spikes became loose and I kicked off my spikes at  200m left and finished the race without shoes.

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: My biggest competition was within my own team in our long runs when we would drop time in the last mile and race back to the school.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: My biggest accomplishment is being a State Qualifier in the 4x800 and Sectional individual Qualifier in both the 800m and Cross Country.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: If could I change it all over again I wouldn't have played soccer my first 3 years and would have started track my freshman year. I also definitely would not have tried to do soccer and Cross Country in the same season.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: My biggest obstacle had to be is having confidence in my own abilities during races.

Q: What will you miss the most?
A: I will miss both the Francis Howell Track and Cross Country Program and all of my friends that I enjoyed running with.

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?
A: Words of Wisdom: Believe in yourself, your workouts, and your ability. Also you should probably listen to your coach, they are right most of the time.

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
A: My coach has had a large impact on me. My coach is Ryan Taylor(C-Tay), AKA the guy who is writing this article, wasn't always my head coach. He started off as a hurdle coach my sophomore year, and I really didn't get to know him. He stayed with the program through Cross Country and later became the head coach of the Francis Howell Track and Cross Country Program.During the Track season I really got to know him as he coached our 4x800 team to state. My Senior I talked to him a lot about stats, track and other things in life. He was not just my coach or mentor, he became my friend. I can say he has been the reason that I have stuck with this sport and will continue it into college. Coach is reason I have dropped 17 seconds in the 800m and the reason I am not doing the triple jump or the 100m dash. So thank you Coach Taylor for not letting me become a triple jumper.

Q: What are your college plans?
A: I plan to run Track and Cross Country at Maryville University

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
A: I would like to give my entire team a thank you for being the best team possible and putting up with me for the last 3 years.
