District 1
Class 4 District 1 will be taking place at Jackson City Park in Jackson, MO this Saturday. This course is pretty fair, and should see times around where athletes have been throughout the season.
Class 4 No. 1 St. Louis University High will be the favorites to win the team race, and we could see them run some of their fastest times this year as they have not ran their top squad together on a fast course this season. Their top challenger (and the favorite according to the virtual meet) will be a Class 4 No. 9 Webster Groves team. They will be followed closely by Lindbergh and the hosts Jackson. In their only matchup this season, SLUH defeated Webster Groves at Parkway West and did so without their top runner.
In the quest for the individual title, it will likely come down to someone from those top 4 teams. SLUH will have two guys running for the title with Noah Scott (St. Louis University High) and Lucas Rackers (St. Louis University High) squaring off with Charlie Teeter (Webster Groves) and Luke Wendel (Jackson). In the only head to head match up Scott (16:26 SB) beat Teeter (15:39 SB) at Parkway West. Wendel (15:56 SB) beat Teeter at Gans Creek, but Teeter beat him at the FZN Twilight where they both ran their season bests. I'd give the edge to one of the junior billikens in this one.
In the girls race Class 4 No. 4 Nerinx Hall will enter the meet as the favorites. They have had a very good season, and have been very consistent with their performances. Their top challenger will likely be Class 4 No. 8 Cor Jesu who has really been picking up steam as the year has gone on. Farmington and Lindbergh also look to be gunning for a top 4 spot and a trip to Sectionals. In head to head matchups, Nerinx hasn't lost to anyone in this District this season.
The race for the individual title though, looks to be much more interesting. Marisa Jacknewitz (Nerinx Hall) will square off with Frances Luna (Cor Jesu), Adrienne Luna (Cor Jesu), Alyssa Forbes (Lindbergh), and Stephanie Anthonies (Seckman). Jacknewitz (18:55 SB) won the only matchups she had against this group, defeating the Frances Luna (19:04 SB) and Adrienne Luna (19:05 SB) at Forest Park, and Forbes (19:04 SB) at the FZN Twilight. Frances defeated Forbes, Anthonies (18:46 SB), and her sister at Parkway West as well. I'd say Jacknewitz is the favorite here, but I think France Luna will giver a run for her money.
