Name: Alicia Burnett
School: Parkway North High School
Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?
A: My training right now is working on my core and running outside some days.
Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?
A: To keep myself busy I've just been doing homework early and getting on FaceTime with my friends from school. I even started making TikToks.
Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: The most memorable moment for me is my whole junior season; and winning state as a team. A memorable race would be the 4x4 last year at state, when we went from 8th to 1st.
Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
A: The team bonding we had last year was probably the funniest. We attempted to watch movies and chill, but ended up outside running around and getting lost in the neighborhood.
Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: My biggest competition was anyone that I lined up against.
Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: My greatest accomplishment would be breaking the all-class record in the 100 and also breaking my school's records.
Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: I wouldn't change anything, everything was a learning experience that helped me become mentally and physically stronger for track; but if I did change something it would be keeping the same work ethic I had my freshman year all four years.
Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: Having to sit out a season was difficult, I would go to a lot of meets to support and it would be hard watching everyone compete.
Q: What will you miss the most?
A: I will miss my track brothers and sisters, and the little arguments we had like siblings do. I also will
miss seeing my AAU teammates at some high school meets.
Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?
A: Stay focused on your craft and let no one distract you. When life hits hard don't stop believing in yourself; you're given a gift for a reason. Even when you're winning you have to work your hardest because there's always a target on your back.
Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
A: My coach had a big impact on the team, would give good advice and wanted to have fun while trying to be better than before.
Q: What are your college plans?
A: I will be attending Texas A&M and studying physical therapy.
Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
A: I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, not just in high school, but my whole track career. The coaches, teammates, and my family helped me a lot.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A: It's sad how our senior season turned out, but this just makes it right for us to go big our freshman year in college.
