Southern Boone County's Alexandra Volkart has the state's fastest times for junior girls.
She took fifth at the state championship last year and her time this year is nearly 1:30 faster than her time last year at the state meet. Volkart is one of six runners whose best time came at the Chile Pepper Festival.
Gans Creek Classic accounts for six of the top 25 times and that came on the state course back in September. Many of these runners should be back the first weekend in November.
Kansas City area runners make up five of the top 10 runners, led by Class 5's Abigail Brackenbury from Blue Springs and Ashlyn Smith from Raymore-Peculiar. The two ran head-to-head last week at the conference meet and Smith won.
