Matthew Morrison dominated the javelin event last year and he claimed the Class 5 title last spring.
The Liberty North senior is back and of the top returning marks from juniors to freshmen last season, he had the best mark from Class 1-5 with 204 feet, 2 inches.
He's also the only returning state champion from all of the classes.
Eight of the top 10 distances thrown last year were from all-staters
Hillsboro's Payton Brown (Class 4) and Gilman City's Brody Langfitt (Class 1) were runners-up last year. Trey Roets of Webb City (Class 4) was third, while William Chrisman's Ethan Dias (Class 5) and Joseph Lepak (Class 3) were both fourth last year. Lepak has transferred to Grandview.
