Hermitage High School is turning into a small-school powerhouse when it comes to track and field and cross country.
The state took notice last calendar year when the Hornets won the Class 1 MSHSAA Track and Field Championship in May of 2023. In November, the Hornets won the Class 1 MSHSAA XC championship for the third year in a row.
Sabala was named the USTFCCA Missouri Boys Coach of the Year for all classes recently.
He sat down with Mo Mile Split to talk about the award and what it has been like building the program in southwest Missouri. Of the school's 11 state trophies, 10 are either from cross country or track and field.
