Henry Acorn and the Rockhurst boys stole the show Friday at the Gans Creek Classic's first ever Elite Twilight race. On the immaculate Gans Creek course under the lights and in the shadows, the Hawklets made a statement with the 73-point victory, 34 points ahead of Rock Bridge and 61 points ahead of Liberty. They also revealed slick new uniforms that were designed by William Hayes and modeled after 1990s throwbacks, according to head coach Michael Dierks.
Acorn picked up the individual win in a new personal best and MO No. 1 15:02.30, charging home in the final 150 meters to pull away from the 15:04 man Ayden Taylor, who finished in 15:06.90, and reigning state champion Luke Sievers, who finished in 15:11.20 - the same mark he ran at the notoriously short Olathe Twilight. It was a big day for all three boys who appear to be forming a chunk of the front-pack in Class 5 so far this season.
