This Year
When you have a defending champion coming back as a senior as is the case here with Oak Grove’s Tyler Banks you almost have to give him the moniker of favorite. However, with the way Westminster senior Daniel Everett has been running this year, including two trips south of 4:13 for 1600 meters, perhaps co-favorites are what we really have going into the weekend. Do not count out last year’s fourth-placer Alex Bledsoe from Nevada, super sophomore Amos Bartelsmeyer from MICDS or Cardinal Ritter freshman phenom Charles Jones.

This Year
This race will undoubtedly be a much-anticipated one among distance fans as all eyes will be on Daniel Everett and whether or not the Westminster senior will try to lay down a fast time in his final State Meet. The 1600 final will be the first of five races over two days for him though so a fast time may not be prudent. Either way the race will be a good one and there are plenty of other great runners to watch here as well including Daniel’s brother David who has run 4:21 this year as well as Moberly’s Sam Dickerson who matched that time at last year’s State Meet.

This Year
Given his 9:17 performance at the KU Relays back in April it would seem Westminster’s David Everett would have the best odds to take home the title in the Class 3 3200 on Saturday. Nothing is a guarantee, however, and with last year’s sixth-placer Jordan Mann in the field as well as Festus’ Drew White and Everett’s brother Daniel anything can happen. Expect to see a similar scenario to what we saw play out last November at the State Cross Country Championships where the Everett’s set the pace with White hanging on and eventually breaking them up. The question may be which Everett will pull away this time.

(Amos Bartelsmeyer, MICDS)
On paper this one is a two-team battle between Sectional Two champions MICDS and runners-up Westminster Christian Academy. Both teams crossed the line in 7:58 last weekend and both could go significantly faster on Saturday. MICDS will likely go with Sectional 800 champ Amos Bartelsmeyer on the anchor where he will have to face Westminster star Daniel Everett. This one has the potential to be one of the highlights of the entire weekend as both squads are vying for trophies in Class 3 and every point will count. Challenges to these two foursomes could come from St. Pius X, Festus and Farmington.
