Salute to Seniors: Emmanuel Price

Salute To Seniors: Emmanuel Price - University City

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race was the 300 hudrles at districts this year. No one expected me to give Ezekiel a run for his money. He was the heavy favorite and I built of the courage to make it a race the last 100 meters. We ended up tying and the decision was given to him. But that race gave me lots of confidence in all of my other events.

Who was your biggest competition?
I believe my biggest competition would have to be Nick Ramirez and Darion Boure. Darion Boure was my teammate for 3 years and we always had great competitions and pushed each other in practice and in every competition. We always went at it in practice and meets to push each other to jump further. Then Nick Ramirez was a great competitor. He pushed me big time this year at state the competition was amazing. We went back and forth and back and forth everytime he had a big jump I would jump further. Everytime I would jump further he would come back with a bigger jump. Not only did him winning in 2011 push me but his effort in the competition this year was amazing.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
If I could change my high school running career I would have worked a lot harder. I would have lifted every weight, did every pushup, squat, and etc to help me become a better athlete. Managing my injuries better and making smarter decisions during competiton time.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacles I had to over come were injuries. Watching my team win state my sophomore year without me was devistating I broke my ankle and pulled my quad. That season was a real humbling experience for me brought me down to earth and made me work so much harder. The next year I pulled my hamstring and from then on I made sure I could do everything possible to stay healthy. I had my mind set my senior year would be my year.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the fans and my parents being able to come to all my meets. The support and encouragment of my friends and teammates. My coaches guiding me every step of the way with my father right next to them. Will miss all the races against some of the greatest athletes in the country. My high school career is full of memories to many to all put a single sheet of paper. But the thing I will really miss the most is the encouragement of my mother pushing me on at every meet to do my best and performe to my full potential.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Always stay confident and believe in yourself even when you are at your worst. Put forth your best effort in every race every jump every workout that you possibly can. When there is something you cant do, do everything possible you can do to make it happen. But to be the best you dont just practice with your team you do extra to be the best. Dont settle for just anything and run every race like it is your last jump every jump like it is your last. Listen to everything your coach has to say and dont take your talent for granted. To be the best you have to train like you are the worst.

What are your college plans?
I will be attending Hampton University in Virginia on a full scholarship. I will be in there 5 year Masters in Buisness Administration program.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
First of all I would like to thank God he is my savior. He has been there for me since day one and will be there for me till the end. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in everything that I have done. My parents Byron and Vera Price. All of my siblings Dawn, Paul, and Sarah. I would like to thank everyone who has coach me in my long career, Coach Lewis, Coach Burris, Coach Williams, Coach Reggie, Coach Keller, and Coach Price. I would really like to thank Coach Lewis for helping me get my state title. I would also like to thank Dapo if it was no for him I would not have become the triple jumper I am today. He would kill us in triple jump when we were younger he jumped 47 ft when we were 13 and I told myself I was going to work so hard to beat him lol. Him, Ezekiel, Darion Boure, and Nick Ramirez have been great competitors in my high school career who have all also been supportive of each other. They have driven me to become the athlete I have become. I would also like to thank my former coaches when I was younger Coach Micheal Carr the former coach of the Royal Knights and Coach Ford, who is the coach of Affton Womens program who tought me how to long jump when I was 10 yeas old, also Coach Harris if it was not for him I would have never been a jumper in the first place.
