Most memorable race:
My most memorable would have to be XC districts my junior year at Jefferson Barracks. Right at about the 2 mile mark, I twisted my ankle and rolled down the hill. I remember my coach yelling for me to drop out, but I decided to run through it and ended up finishing 4th for our team. We missed first place by one point so that was pretty upsetting, but I think we definitely made up for it at state.
My Biggest Competition:
I’d have to say, in all honesty, my dog. No human being has speed like him and he has beaten me every single time when we race at the end of our walks. I try not to think about who is in my race or what their times are. I just go out and try to compete.
Which high school accomplishment stands out the most:
There are a couple, but I think one of the biggest was when our 4x400 relay team broke the state record my junior year. Being a part of that relay with both Sam Levin and Montenae Roye was really an awesome experience, especially since it was my first year running competitive track. They were definitely big role models and it was a huge accomplishment for our team.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
One of the biggest thing I would change would be not starting track my junior year. If I could go back, I definitely wished I had started as a freshman instead of playing 2 years of varsity soccer. I enjoy soccer, however I really love track and field and I wish I had more time to compete in high school.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome:
Definitely injuries. Anywhere from sprained ankles, stress fractures, even broken toes, I’ve had almost all of them. It was especially tough my senior year when I had a stress fractures and a pulled quad all within the same 3 months, which took me out for a good chunk of the season.
What will you miss the most:
No question, my teammates. They are really my best friends and training with them for 4 years has been awesome.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes:
Take care of your body, be serious when you need to, but also have fun. It goes by way too fast so value the time you have.
What are your college plans?
Planning to run track and field at Washington University in St. Louis next year. As of right now, majoring in PNP-philosophy, neuroscience, psychology
Who would you like to thank?
Definitely my track and cross country coach, Tim Levine, for teaching me a lot about running and helping me grow as a person as well. Also, thanks to my parents and friends for all the support.
