Message from MTCCCA Godfather Dean Hays

This is a follow-up to the mass email I sent out on March 6th.  The major premise of that lengthy email is that marks in three field events are being incorrectly measured.  Since the Florida HS state track met series was mandated to be measured in metric this year (with all results reported in Imperial - simple thing for Hy-Tek to do) and they completed their regional meets (equivalent to our sectionals) on Saturday, here are the results:

Comparison of 2016 measurements of best marks vs. 2017 in the LJ, TJ, SP at the Fl regional meets.
Marks ending in 1/4 inch in 2016 occurred 11.4%. In 2017 24.5%
Marks ending in 1/2 inch in 2016 occurred 26.3%. In 2017 26.3%
Marks ending in 3/4 inch in 2016 occurred 11.7%. In 2017 24.6%
Marks with no fraction in 2016 occurred 47.8%. In 2017 24.5%

I think it worked at least to eliminate any protest being upheld because NFHS rules 6.7.11 or 6.9.13 were not followed.

As I asked in the 1st email, can anybody think of a good reason not to propose to both the NFHS for an overall rule change as well as to the TF Advisory committee in Missouri that all field event marks be measured in metric?

Second, in a question, I asked on milesplit and only got one response other response from Ryan Banta was on how many in-season marks are better than the state meet record?  With Austin Hindman of Lafayette running 8:43.40 in California in the 3200 earlier this month, I know of four others for sure - boy's HJ, PV, discus and the girl's 3200.  Any others?
