Shining Through the Rain: Class 1& 2 State Recap

Class 2 Highlights

Anna Heacock Sweeps Hurdle Races, Medals in both 200 & Long Jump

Anna was able to defend her State Title in the 100H this year, and won her first State Championship in the 300H as well. She also was able to secure 6th place finishes in both the 200 and Long Jump. She still has another year of High School left, and I'm looking forward to seeing her dominate again next year.

Allie Gibbs Captures 1600 and 3200 State Championships

Coming off a successful sophomore season which saw her medal in all three distance races, she followed that up this season with State Championships in both the 1600 and 3200, and placed 5th in the 800. In what may be surprising to some, she also was a member of Steelville's 12th place 4x100 team. In the 1600 & 3200 there was never any doubt in the outcome as she ran away from the field from the beginning onward. I'm sure she'll find a way to wow everyone again next season.

Ariyonna Baston Wins 100 and 200 State Titles

As a freshman last year she finished as the Runner-Up in the 200. This year though she wasn't going to settle for 2nd. She won both the 100 and 200 and set a new PR in the 200 with a 25.35 in prelims. In addition to the two individual State Title's she was also on UAC's 2nd place 4x100 team.

Owen Dobbins Sets Class 2 State Meet Record in Javelin

Dobbins had already obtained the State Record for Class 2 with an 186-10 throw a District a few weeks previously. There have been several arguments about how State Records only count if they are obtained at the State Meet. While that's technically how MSHSAA track records (though many can argue that it shouldn't be done that way), Dobbins went ahead an broke the State Meet Record too with a 178-2. So now either way you look at it, he's the Class 2 Record Holder.
