Early Outdoor Outlook: What To Watch For This Spring

Issam Asinga, Issam Asinga, Issam Asinga

It was an utterly dominant 2022 season for Principia's Issam Asinga, not unlike his 2021 season.

Since bursting on the scene two years ago, Asinga has been one of the top sprinters in the state. Last season, the Class 1 star ran up with the St. Louis areas best of the best and closed out his season undefeated in the 100, 200, and 400.

In 2022, it was 21 times on the line, 21 first place finishes.

Asinga heads into his senior season with wind-legal personal bests of 10.44 in the 100 meter dash, 20.76 in the 200 meter dash, and 48.17 in the 400 meter dash. He focused on the 100 and 200 last spring, easily winning Class 1 State and Great Southwest Classic titles in both. He'll bump back up to Class 2, but that shouldn't hold him back.

His 20.76 (+0.6) 200 is an all-conditions state record and his 10.41 (+3.5) is top 10 all-time all-conditions in the 100 meter dash. How low can he go in 2023? Much like with Zaya Akins, we can't way to see.
