Record Watch: Class 2 Record - 10.74 set in 2012 by Michael Wells who has run 10.57 this year.
Coming into the season there was no doubt who was the fastest man in Class 2 – Michael Wells. The Cleveland NJROTC junior is not only the returning Class 2 champ and class record holder, but he recorded the second fastest 60m and fastest 200m time indoors. He transitioned quickly to outdoors throwing a 10.73 in his first meet despite subpar conditions. His second meet led to a hamstring injury that kept him out for a month before he returned victorious in the 200m at Kirkwood. That was followed with a couple more weeks of rest before he began his title defense. His district meet brought him W’s in both the 100m and 200m. His sectional he sent a statement – he is fully back. With a little help from the wind he recorded a 10.57, easily the top time in Class 2 and the second best in the state. While it is his race to lose, sub 11 second runners Gunner Jones and Cedric Harris could capitalize on a bad start or off race by wells.
