Preview

I remember four years ago when a small, tenacious freshman took both the 1600 and 3200 in Class 3.  Kaitlyn Fischer hasn’t really done much bit win her entire track career. In her final race in a Herculaneum jersey before heading to be a Missouri Tiger, Fischer will look to cap it off just like she started – with a win.  After adding her second cross country title in the fall, Fischer sustained in injury in the early season that sidelined her until one week before the Kansas Relays.  It didn’t really seem to slow her down as she ran a PR of 10:55 to place third at Kansas.  At Sectionals she looked strong, beating second ranked Courtney Rogers, in a season best 5:06, only one second off her best.  Rogers is one of two girls I suspect to challenge Fischer.  Rogers has showed some speed this year running times of 2:23 and 5:13.  She’s beaten Fischer before, not a lot, but she has shown she can.  Another girl to watch for is Savannah Beaver.  Beaver has the most speed of the three as she is the reigning 800 meter champ.  Her season best of 5:25 is deceiving as she has run 5:17 before.  I suspect if it’s a kickers race Beaver could be the one storming to victory.
