Five Bold Predictions After Outdoor's First Two Weeks

4. Jefferson R-VII Girls Will Score 100 Points At State

While Lee's Summit West is busy dominating Class 5, there may be a LSW, Jr. that will score 100 points at the state meet the week before the Titans do the same.

And that team is Jefferson R-VII (Festus)

This weekend at the Festus Early Bird, the Lady Jays finished second overall in the 22 team standings and, though it was not a dominating or eye-popping team performance, it was a stellar precursor for what is to come this season.

Led by the multi-event phenom Anna Heacock, Jefferson finished well behind Blue Springs South, but well ahead of many strong Class 3, 4, and 5 teams including Lafayette, Eureka, Raymore-Peculiar, and Francis Howell, among others.

Heacock won the 100 meter hurdles by just under a second (15.96), took second in the 300 hurdles (48.48), won the long jump by over a foot (16-8.5), and finished fourth in the 200 (27.89). None of these were bests for Heacock, but they are all top four marks in Class 2 early on. She could very well score 35-40 points by herself in these four events, but the jury is still out on whether she drops the 200 for the high jump or even throws in a leg on one of the relays.

Jordan Heacock is another strong presence for the Lady Jays and, even though she did not score points on Saturday, she is number five in the 1600 and number eight in the 800 right now and should contribute well to their state points totals in at least three of the four distance events.

Taya Allen was not very far on Saturday and is not very far Anna Heacock in multiple events, the 100 hurdles and high jump being two of those. Abi Chipps brings points in the short sprints and could move Anna to the 4x2 or elsewhere with her points. Hanna Floyd and Jenna Courtois both return over 15' in the long jump and Courtois's 34-4.25 puts her in a great spot to snag a top 3 medal in the triple jump.

Need we go on? Because we could.

Jefferson R-VII stands a very good chance of making it two teams in triple digits this May. Stay tuned to see how it all plays out.
