Fatima, Fatima, Fatima... What more can we say about the Comets?
Fatima enters November looking to defend both their boys and girls teams titles from 2018 and the girls are looking to run their streak to seven. They'll have to get through an absolutely loaded District 4 first, though.
Arguably the toughest district in Class 2, District 4 features Fatima, Father Tolton, Hermann, New Bloomfield, and New Haven, five notoriously strong squads in middle Missouri. After winning the Blue Division at the Gans Creek Classic, the Fatima boys made a strong statement on the state course, but they're going to be on their A-game on Saturday at Linn if they hope to qualify to defend their state championship. Hermann is bringing the noise led by studs Dalton Gleeson and Carter Hemeyer. In fact, if these two guys continue to run like they have been this season, they could propel Hermann to a state title of their own (HOT TAKE ALERT). But that's still a week away...
Father Tolton also could stand in Fatima's way of getting to the big dance, but it will all come down to who shows up on the day, and, virtual meets and rankings aside, Coach Bridges always seems to come up with a formula for success on race day for his guys and girls.
Speaking of the Fatima girls, they are in the mix for yet another district title Saturday. Led by reigning state champ Kendall Haller, Fatima is dead even with Father Tolton heading into the weekend. Tolton appears to be the biggest contender to knock the Comets off at Gans Creek, but it will be most telling when the dust settles at Linn Saturday. Watch for Kaleigh Moore, Morgan Miller, and Alexis Fischer, among some three other Father Tolton runners, to be in the mix with Haller for the individual win.
