Despite the very unique circumstances of this season, athletes and teams have still been able to run some incredible performances so far in the 2020 cross country season. We are going to take a look at those top performers today in Class 1.
Girls
It should come as a surprise to no one that two time defending state champ Riley Arnold (Blue Eye) sits as the top performer in Class 1 as we get ready to head to the postseason. She owns a season best of 18:21, which is a minute and a half faster than the next fastest runner. She's won all five races she's been in this season, and doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon.
Delaney Straus (Marion County) is the only other girl in Class 1 to have broken 20:00 this season. Her season best of 19:46 sits just behind her PR of 19:41 from state last year, and she looks like she's well on her way to breaking that at state this season.
Boys
Rex Heath (Principia) has the top overall time in Class 1 so far this season, despite only having ran twice. He ran his season best of 16:34 a couple of weeks ago at Ladue, and will look to get even better as he gets more races under his belt.
Ryan Cardenzana (Blue Eye) has had a good start to his season as well. His season best time of 16:47 currently sits as the second fastest time in Class 1, and he'll look to keep improving as we make the turn for the postseason here soon.
