Coach Rich Witt hosted the 2nd Annual St. Louis Vault Classic at Ladue High School, Sunday, May 1. The Ladue boys cross country and boys and girls pole vault coach started the pole vault only event last year, when it was held at MICDS. This year's event was at the newly minted Ladue Horton Watkins High School Track and Field facility and attracted some of the top vaulters from around the region. The weather cooperated with good conditions and minimal wind.
The field included nine girls and 10 boys. Many of them already had or would soon add All-State honors to their resumes or were among the best in their grade or class and came up just short of the state meet while competing in strong district or sectional meets.
Oakville junior superstar Mason Meinershagen won the girls competition a year after taking 2nd in the event. Meinershagen, who boasts impressive bests of 3.91m/12-10'' indoors and 3.99m/13-1'' outdoors, cleared 3.85m/12-7.5'' for the win.
