Day 1, MSHSAA 2022 XC Championship Highlights

Day one is in the books and some historic moments happened in Columbia.

Grace Tyson from Lafayette (Wildwood) repeated as the Class 5 champion, despite being out of action since September due to an injury. The Indiana commit is the first-ever Class 5 girl runner to repeat, though this is only year No. 3 of that division.

Tyson led a 1-2-5 finish by the Lady Lancers with sisters Elissa and Natalie trailing not far behind. Lafayette got 28th and 30th-place finishes from Ashley Rinkenberger and Blair Lobdell to help the team total just 50-points, to earn the team title over the 16-team field and runner-up Raymore-Peculier (80 pts).

The boys Class 5 race saw Liberty North win the team title, led by Sage Wilde's winning mark for the Eagles.

MICDS' Julia Ray secured her second state title by winning the Class 4 meet -- adding it to her Class 3 title in 2019.

Hillsboro snapped Festus' eight-year title run in the Class 4 boys race. Josh Allison also became the school's first-ever cross country champ.
