Schweizer
After having surgery last fall, Iowa native and former Mizzou standout Karissa Schweizer ran her second race of the season at USAs. In May, Schweizer didn't finish a 5k in Los Angeles. On the first night of the 2023 USA Track and Field Championships, Schweizer toed the line in the 10,000-meter run in a field of 21.
Schweizer sat in 2nd or 3rd for most of the race, but four others were quicker than her over the final few laps. Schweizer's Bowerman Track Club teammate Elise Cranny won by 5 seconds in 32:13. Alicia Monson was 2nd in 32.17, with Natoshia Rogers 3rd in 32:22. Weini Kelati was 4th in 32:30 while Schweizer was close behind in 32:32. Rogers and Kelati have not met the world meet standard of 30:40 yet and have a short time to do so.
If neither woman hits the standard, Schweizer will make the US team. Schweizer finished 9th in the event for Team USA at the World Championships last year in Oregon in 30:18. She currently sits 9th in world rankings in the event, which bodes well for her chances for a spot for Worlds.
