After a hard rain the night after Day 1 of the 2022 MSHSAA State Cross Country Championships, athletes in the Class 2 races had to endure a light rain to kick off Day 2 of the Championships. The rain ended but the Class 3 races that followed still had strong winds and an overcast sky to for athletes to endure. However, midway through the Class 1 Girls race, the sun appeared as the thick clouds disappeared. The low lying dark clouds were replaced with scattered, high, white ones that dotted the blue sky.


The Van Buren ladies were trying to repeat as Class 1 champions after scoring just 43 points and putting 4 in the top-22. However, the Platte Valley/South Nodaway girls had another idea. The Longhorns placed their top-5: 3-4-29-45-46 to score 75 points and edge Van Buren by 8-points.


Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City began in 2005 and in year number 18 won their first girls state cross country trophy to go with two the boys have won.The school is located a half-mile thru the woods from the former home of the state cross country championships, Oak Hills Golf Center. The Lady Lions scored 141 points at the state meet's current home, Gans Creek, to earn the 3rd-place team trophy. 


The final team trophy was decided by a tiebreaker. Mid-Missouri's Glasgow High captured another state trophy, edging St. Louis County's Principia. Glasgow's 6th runner placed 117th while Principia's 6th was 10 spots (127th) and 25-seconds back.

The battle for the individual title and the team trophies was in full swing at 2,200-meters into the Class 1 Girls race.
